Admission Requirements
To apply to the school of music, students must supply the following:
- Bachelor's degree in music education from an accredited institution. It must also adhere to the general guidelines for undergraduate competencies in music theory, music history, music performance, conducting, ensemble participation and music education preparation as established by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
- A teaching certificate or licensure from one of the 50 states in the U.S.
- Three letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant's academic background, musicianship and teaching effectiveness. For prospective music education students, the letter should provide evidence of successful teaching experience, academic ability and professionalism.
- A resume of educational and professional achievements in the field of music attached to a cover letter indicating future career goals.
- Official transcripts from each college or university attended.
- A minimum music GPA of 3.0 (B average) and at least 2.77 (B-minus average) overall.
- Although not required, formal music teaching experience in public or private school systems is desired.
- The current application fee is $100.
Please note: the GRE, GMAT or MAT are NOT required for admission. Neither are ensemble and performance auditions.
